    Description

Volunteers Needed to Serve as Mentors in Escambia/Santa Rosa County

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwest Florida seeks caring adults to serve as mentors to young children facing adversity in their lives. There are currently more than 200 children on our local waiting list - mostly boys! Just a few hours each month can make a huge difference in the life of a child. As a Big Brother or Big Sister volunteer you will be matched with a child between the ages of 6 and 13 who needs a caring adult role model and friend. In our community-based mentoring program, volunteers spend 1:1 time with their matched youth, known as "Littles," in the community. Activities might include going to a sporting event, working on an arts and crafts project, or completing a community service activity. Volunteers must be 17 years or older, be willing to spend time with a child at a minimum 2 times per month and submit to a screening process (interview, fingerprinting, references, driving checks).

Big Brothers Big Sisters is a non-profit program founded on the premise that children need responsible, responsive adults in their formative years in order to reach their full potential. We provide one-to-one mentoring to children primarily from single parent families who are in need of an adult role model. Volunteers bring positive new cultural, social and educational experiences to the lives of children in the program. Our mission is to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported 1-to-1 relationships that change their lives for the better, forever. Our vision is for all children to achieve success in life.
