    Description

English & Environmental Education – Peruvian Amazon

Are you passionate about empowering youth and protecting the planet? Join Semillas Life in Codo del Pozuzo, a unique cultural melting pot in the heart of the Peruvian Amazon. We are seeking dynamic volunteers to lead our integrated education program, where language learning meets rainforest conservation.

In many remote Amazonian communities, access to specialized education is limited. Our program bridges this gap by providing local primary and secondary students with the English skills necessary for future careers in sustainable tourism and science, while simultaneously fostering a deep sense of environmental stewardship through hands-on ecology workshops.

Your Impact: As an Education Intern, you will be more than just a teacher; you will be a mentor. You will work within local schools and our community center to:

    • Deliver English Lessons: Create engaging, activity-based curriculum for various age groups and proficiency levels.
    • Lead Environmental Workshops: Facilitate "living classrooms" in our reforestation plots, teaching students about biodiversity, waste management, and climate change.
    • Community Integration: Organize "Eco-Clubs" and community clean-up days to promote sustainable habits.

    Responsibilities

    • Plan and execute 10–15 hours of classroom instruction per week.
    • Develop creative teaching materials that utilize the local environment as a resource.
    • Assist in the monitoring of our reforestation sites alongside students.
    • Collaborate with local teachers to share pedagogical techniques and cultural insights.

    Qualifications

    • Education: Background in Education, ESL/TEFL, Environmental Science, or a related field are a plus, but the are not a requirement.
    • Language: Native or near-native English. Basic to intermediate Spanish is highly recommended for community interaction.
    • Soft Skills: High level of adaptability, patience, and a "can-do" attitude for living in a remote, rural setting.
    • Passion: A genuine interest in grassroots conservation and youth empowerment.

    Benefits & Living Environment

    • Immersion: Live in the vibrant village of Codo del Pozuzo, surrounded by primary rainforest and waterfalls.
    • Professional Growth: Gain significant independent teaching and project management experience in an international setting.
    • Adventure: Weekend trips to pristine jungle sites, camping expeditions, and cultural exchanges.

    Codo del Pozuzo, Peru
    Directions

Route 1: Via Oxapampa (Recommended for Bus Travel)

This is the most direct route if you are traveling by land from Lima.

    1. Lima to Oxapampa: Take a bus from Lima (approx. 11 hours).
    2. Oxapampa to Codo del Pozuzo: * Direct: Look for pick-up trucks/colectivos outside the bus station heading straight to Codo (S/50–80 soles).
      • If no direct transport: Take a tuk-tuk (S/10 soles) to the Terminal de Colectivos.
      • Take a colectivo to Pozuzo (2 hours, S/35–50 soles).
      • From Pozuzo, take a final colectivo to Codo del Pozuzo (2 hours, S/35–50 soles).

Route 2: Via Pucallpa (Fastest via Flight)

Best if you prefer to fly part of the way to save time.

    1. Lima to Pucallpa: Flight (1 hour) or Bus (20 hours).
    2. Pucallpa to Codo del Pozuzo:
      • Colectivo Pick-up: We can help organize a direct colectivo from the airport (S/90–100 soles). Note: You may have to wait for the vehicle to fill with passengers.
      • Private Taxi: We can organize a private car for approximately S/300 soles (direct, 5 hours).
      • Public Transport: Take a tuk-tuk to Terminal de Colectivos Kilómetro #6. Take a car/minibus to Puerto Sungaro (2–3 hours, S/35–50 soles). In Puerto Sungaro, catch a pick-up truck to Codo del Pozuzo (2–3 hours, S/35–50 soles).

    💡 Pro-Tips for the Journey:

    • Arrival Timing: Aim to arrive in Pucallpa or Oxapampa in the morning (before 13:00h). Most colectivos stop running or become harder to find after dark.
    • Ask First: To avoid scams, always confirm the fee with the driver before putting your luggage in the vehicle.
    • The "Back of the Truck" Discount: On the Puerto Sungaro to Codo leg, riding in the open back of the pick-up truck usually costs less (~S/35 soles) than sitting inside.
    • Please, do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions. We can also meet via Zoom, Meet, Teams, or WhatsApp. We will be happy to answer all your questions.
