Habitat for Humanity of Long Island builds decent and affordable housing throughout Suffolk County, New York. Crew leaders provide leadership and guidance to small crews of volunteers on Habitat Suffolk construction sites.
What are the requirements to be a crew leader? You must be willing to teach and lead others as well as to learn. No experience is necessary! We hope you will be able to come out at least two times per month.
What does it mean to be a crew leader? What are the crew leader's roles and responsibilities? As a crew leader, you are assigned one or more tasks to complete for the day. Crew leaders work with their fellow volunteers to complete construction tasks to standard. On days where we have groups of volunteers, crew leaders are tasked to step back and supervise. A crew leader's responsibilities are volunteer interaction and the application of appropriate construction practices.
What training is provided to a crew leader? Habitat provides hands-on training and mentorship for leaders. As a crew leader you will have the opportunity to learn, practice, perform and teach the many different construction practices involved in building a home.
When do crew leaders volunteer? Crew leaders are needed Tuesday through Saturday and typically serve from 8:30am-2:45pm.
