    Description

    Position Title: Board Treasurer

    Reports To: Board Chair, Executive Director, and Finance Committee

    Term Length: Three (3) years, renewable once

    Compensation: Volunteer (uncompensated)

    Time Commitment: Approximately 6–10 hours per month

    POSITION OVERVIEW

    The Treasurer serves as the chief financial steward of the board, providing oversight of the organization's financial health, internal controls, and fiscal accountability. The Treasurer chairs the Finance Committee and partners with staff leadership to ensure responsible resource management aligned with the organization's mission and strategic priorities.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Review monthly and quarterly financial statements and present summaries to the full board
    • Chair the Finance Committee and lead annual budget development oversight
    • Monitor cash flow, reserves, and investment performance
    • Ensure the organization maintains appropriate internal controls and financial policies
    • Oversee the annual audit or financial review process and present findings to the board
    • Ensure timely filing of Form 990 and other required financial disclosures
    • Advise on financial implications of strategic decisions brought before the board
    • Work with the Executive Director on financial forecasting and scenario planning
    • Serve as a resource to board members on financial literacy and organizational financial health
    • Work with other Board Members to support fundraising efforts, including a personal annual commitment

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Background in accounting, finance, CPA, CFO, banking, or financial management
    • Experience reading and interpreting nonprofit financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, cash flow)
    • Familiarity with nonprofit financial regulations, including IRS Form 990 requirements
    • Strong analytical skills and comfort presenting financial information to diverse audiences
    • Prior nonprofit board or finance committee experience strongly preferred
    • High degree of integrity and commitment to fiduciary responsibility
