Aeon for Ocean is a volunteer-driven 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to inspiring the next generation to protect and restore our oceans. Through our “Kids teaching kids to lead the way in protecting the world’s oceans” model, we empower youth to become ambassadors of ocean conservation.

You can learn more about our mission, programs, and volunteer opportunities at www.aeonforocean.org.

If you’re motivated by meaningful work, enjoy collaborative teamwork, and want to see your financial expertise directly support environmental education, we’d love to hear from you.

    Position Overview

We’re seeking an experienced and well-rounded Finance Manager Volunteer to join our team. This volunteer, unpaid role is central to our mission and combines strategic financial leadership with day-to-day management, team coordination, and long-term stewardship.

You will help strengthen Aeon for Ocean’s financial systems, guide budget planning, ensure compliance, and support the financial foundation that sustains our free educational programs.

    Your Impact

    • Oversee and manage Aeon for Ocean’s financial operations, maintaining accurate and timely records in QuickBooks or similar accounting software
    • Ensure consistency and accuracy in transaction classification and documentation to maintain audit-ready records for financial reporting and grant compliance
    • Develop and implement annual budgets and financial strategies that support organizational growth and sustainability
    • Prepare and present clear financial reports for the Board of Directors and other stakeholders
    • Ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal financial and tax regulations, including timely filings
    • Collaborate with program, communications, and leadership teams to align financial planning with programmatic goals
    • Support team building by coordinating and mentoring volunteers in fundraising, grants, and finance-related roles

    What You’ll Bring

    • A degree in finance, accounting, or a related field (MBA or CPA preferred)
    • Two or more years of progressive financial management experience
    • Proficiency with QuickBooks or equivalent accounting software
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Demonstrated leadership or team management experience
    • Clear and cooperative communication skills
    • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse, all-volunteer team
    • Prior nonprofit experience preferred
    • Experience with fundraising or grants administration highly valued
    • Residence within the 48 contiguous United States required

    Commitment

We ask for a one-year volunteer commitment with a part-time schedule of a few hours each week. Meetings are held periodically during regular business hours in the Central Standard Time (CST) zone.

Consistency in this role ensures continuity in Aeon for Ocean’s financial transparency and stewardship. After six months of service, volunteers may request a formal letter of recommendation recognizing their contribution.

    Why Join Us

This is an opportunity to apply your financial skills toward a cause that matters. You will gain hands-on nonprofit experience, collaborate with mission-driven professionals, and contribute directly to educational programs that inspire children to lead in ocean conservation.

You will have flexible hours, space to innovate, and the satisfaction of seeing your work strengthen an organization that gives freely to its communities.
