Location: Local Elementary Schools (in partnership with Grandparents’ Hands & CTC Freedom Homes)

Reports To: Program Coordinator or School Principal

    Overview

Elementary Success Mentors are caring adults who build consistent, supportive relationships with young students (K–5) to encourage regular school attendance and foster a sense of belonging. Mentors serve as trusted allies to both students and their families, helping to remove barriers to students' success and thriving in school.

This role is ideal for community members, parents, retirees, and volunteers who believe in the power of mentorship, kindness, and intergenerational connection.

    • Engage Families:
    • Partner with families to understand challenges and share resources. Serve as a bridge between home and school.
    • Coordinate Support:
    • Work with school teams to connect students and families to services (transportation, counseling, food assistance, etc.).
    • Model Positivity:
    • Be a consistent, uplifting presence in the student’s life—someone who helps them feel seen, valued, and capable.

    Qualifications

    • Strong communication and listening skills
    • Ability to commit to regular check-ins (e.g., weekly)
    • Familiarity with the local community and school culture

Mentors receive orientation and ongoing guidance, including:

    • Strategies for family engagement
    • Tools for tracking attendance and progress
    • Access to school-based support teams
    • Optional technical assistance from mentoring affiliates

    Impact
