    Description

    Political research and outreach assistant (US progressive third parties)

    As popular discontent with corporate driven, two-party politics continues to grow, more Americans may be receptive to viable independent left politics. Jonathan Martin, Professor of Sociology at Framingham State University, seeks one or more assistants for updating, publicizing and applying his work on opportunities for building more competitive progressive third parties in the United States. Projects may include some combination of the following pertaining to progressive third party empowerment:

    • collection and utilization of information on latest promising developments in independent left politics;
    • dissemination of website, social media page, and forthcoming article on this subject;
    • investigation of pertinent interview, podcast, and workshop prospects;
    • video production;
    • website editing and development;
    • identifying, networking and collaborating with relevant candidates, as well as key party, movement and media supporters;
    • recruitment of similarly inclined activists to a progressive third party educational and organizing hub; and
    • brainstorming on how else to strengthen the application of this work.

    Location: This could be done from anywhere. Living in the greater Boston area where the professor is based could be useful but isn't necessary.

    Time commitment: It should be at least 8 hours a week but could be more if desired. Specific hours and days would be flexible. It would require 3-4 months during the fall of 2026 or spring of 2027. Start and end dates would be flexible.

    Qualifications: Applicants should have an interest in US electoral and third party politics, experience and skills pertinent to some of the projects listed above, and sufficient free time to make the necessary commitment. A relevant activist or academic background in this area would be helpful.

    Benefits: Valuable political experience and/or academic internship credit, where relevant.
