Make a Difference When It Matters Most
Autumn Hospice is seeking compassionate, dependable volunteers to provide emotional support and meaningful companionship to patients and their families during end‑of‑life care. As a Companionship Volunteer, your presence brings comfort, dignity, and human connection during a deeply meaningful time.
Key Responsibilities
- Spend quality one‑on‑one time with hospice patients through conversation, reading, games, or quiet companionship
- Provide emotional comfort through a calm, compassionate, and attentive presence
- Offer respectful, non‑judgmental support, allowing patients to share thoughts and feelings at their own pace
- Provide short‑term respite for caregivers by remaining with patients while they rest or handle personal needs
Qualifications
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Massachusetts resident
- Ability to pass a criminal background check
- Strong communication and active listening skills
- Comfort working in sensitive or end‑of‑life settings
- Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and current auto insurance
- Ability to travel to patient locations in Sterling, including private homes, assisted living, or skilled nursing facilities
- Ability to remain calm, grounded, and compassionate in emotionally challenging situations
- Demonstrate an open, empathetic, and non‑judgmental presence
Preferred but Not Required
Prior volunteer or work experience in hospice or healthcare settings
