Be a Volunteer at Habitat for Humanity DC-NOVA's Alexandria ReStore
Details
Description
Habitat for Humanity of Washington, D.C. & Northern Virginia ReStores accepts donations of new, used, and surplus building supplies, appliances, furniture, and other home improvement items for resale to the general public at below-retail prices. The proceeds benefit Habitat for Humanity of Washington, D.C. & Northern Virginia and our work in the community to provide affordable homeownership opportunities to families.
What will you be doing? Volunteers will work with ReStore staff collecting and receiving donated materials, pricing and stocking items on the store floor, cleaning and organizing the store, and assisting customers in the store. If there is any particular skill set you'd like to utilize such as organization or selling, let our staff know and they'll let you flex that skill set. If you are interested in volunteering at the Alexandria ReStore, you can sign up to volunteer at: https://vhub.at/idealist
Please Note: Volunteers must be 16 years or older to volunteer. If the volunteer is under 18, the waiver must be signed by a parent or legal guardian.
For pre-trial court-ordered volunteering, please complete a screening at: vhub.at/covols.

ReStore Volunteers!
We are starting an Orientation Pilot Program at the Alexandria ReStore on June 1st, 2026. For those who wish to start volunteering at the Alexandria ReStore, new volunteers who start after June 1st must attend one formal orientation BEFORE signing up for shifts and volunteering. The orientations are meant to provide more clarity and structure for first-time volunteers at the ReStore.
We will hold three formal orientations every week: 12 pm (in person) on Wednesdays, 5 pm (virtual) on Thursdays, and 12 pm (in person) on Saturdays. Orientations will be about 30 minutes long and will count towards your hours. There will be orientations to select on VolunteerHub and volunteers must attend one before volunteering.
Please Note:
Alexandria ReStore volunteers who have already started volunteering before June 1st will be unaffected by this change.
Chantilly ReStore volunteers will be unaffected by this change. If you wish to volunteer at Chantilly, you can just sign up for a shift and will receive an orientation the first day you volunteer.
This is a pilot program, so we will experiment with this format for Alexandria and reassess. Please let Rachel Jones (Rachel.jones@habitatdcnova.org) know if you have any questions or concerns.
Thank you for volunteering with Habitat DC-NOVA!
