    Volunteer Crisis Line

    Organization: Elijah’s Law

    Position Type: Volunteer

    Schedule: Flexible / Evening and Night Opportunities Available

    Location: Remote

    Compensation: Unpaid Volunteer Position

    Reports To: Executive Director / Program Director

    Position Summary

    Elijah’s Law is seeking compassionate and dependable volunteers to support the Crisis Crisis Line. Volunteers provide a supportive first point of contact for individuals experiencing difficult situations and help connect them with appropriate professional, community, and emergency resources.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Respond to crisis-line calls or messages according to established procedures.
    • Listen respectfully and provide calm, nonjudgmental support.
    • Help individuals identify appropriate resources and referrals.
    • Follow all crisis-response and escalation procedures.
    • Immediately report serious safety concerns according to organizational policy.
    • Maintain appropriate confidentiality and professional boundaries.
    • Document contacts accurately when required.
    • Communicate concerns to the designated supervisor.
    • Participate in required training and volunteer meetings.
    • Provide information about appropriate professional and community services.

    Qualifications

    • Compassionate and patient communication style.
    • Strong listening skills.
    • Ability to remain calm during difficult conversations.
    • Dependable and responsible.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
    • Comfortable following established procedures.
    • Basic computer and communication skills.
    • Previous crisis-support, counseling, social-service, education, or nonprofit experience is helpful but not required.

    Important Safety Requirement

    Volunteers do not provide professional counseling, diagnosis, medical treatment, or emergency intervention. Volunteers must follow Elijah’s Law procedures and refer or escalate situations to qualified professionals or emergency services when appropriate.

    All volunteers must complete required training before independently handling crisis-line contacts.
