Pen Pal Volunteer: Bring Comfort and Connection Through the Mail

    Organization: Compassionate Care Hospice

Volunteer Opportunity Type: Pen Pal Volunteer

Commitment: Approximately one handwritten card or letter per week

    Schedule: Flexible

Bring Comfort, Connection, and Kindness Through the Mail

Compassionate Care Hospice is seeking caring and dependable volunteers to become Pen Pals for hospice patients.

Through this meaningful volunteer opportunity, you can brighten a patient's week with something as simple as a handwritten card or letter. A friendly note in the mailbox can provide encouragement, companionship, and a wonderful reminder that someone is thinking of them.

As a Pen Pal Volunteer, you will be matched with a hospice patient and asked to write approximately once per week. Your letters do not need to be long or elaborate. A few thoughtful words, a cheerful story, a seasonal greeting, an uplifting poem, or simply sharing a little about your day can create a meaningful connection.

    What You'll Do

    • Write approximately one handwritten card or letter each week
    • Send friendly, uplifting, and encouraging messages to a hospice patient
    • Share appropriate stories, poems, seasonal greetings, or other positive thoughts
    • Help create an ongoing sense of companionship and connection
    • Bring a little extra joy to someone's mailbox and their week

Why Become a Pen Pal Volunteer?

Hospice volunteering does not always have to happen in person. Through letters, volunteers can offer kindness and companionship in a simple, personal way.

Your words can remind a patient that they are seen, valued, and remembered.

What This Opportunity Can Offer Patients

    • A friendly connection to look forward to
    • Encouragement and emotional support
    • The joy of receiving personal mail
    • A greater sense of connection to their community
    • A reminder that someone is thinking about them

What You'll Gain as a Volunteer

    • An opportunity to make a meaningful difference through a small act of kindness
    • A flexible way to volunteer and give back
    • The chance to build a unique connection with someone in your community
    • A meaningful way to practice compassion and thoughtfulness
    • The satisfaction of knowing your words may brighten someone's day

    Qualifications

We're looking for volunteers who are:

    • Compassionate, dependable, and respectful
    • Able to commit to writing approximately once per week
    • Comfortable writing positive, friendly, and inclusive messages
    • Mindful of patient privacy and appropriate boundaries
    • Interested in providing companionship through the written word

No special writing experience is necessary. You don't have to be a poet or an expert letter writer. You simply need a willingness to share kindness.

Make a Difference, One Letter at a Time

Sometimes the smallest gestures can be incredibly meaningful. A card arriving in the mail can become something to look forward to and a reminder that someone cares.

If you're looking for a flexible and heartfelt way to make a difference in the life of someone receiving hospice care, we'd love to welcome you as a volunteer.

Become a Pen Pal Volunteer with Compassionate Care Hospice and help us make sure our patients know they are remembered and cared for. ❤️
