We are seeking a Spanish interpreter to assist residents during our Resident Town Hall meetings at Ashby Court in Berkeley. The volunteer will provide clear, high‑quality interpretation between English and Spanish for a small group of Spanish‑speaking residents (typically around five participants). The goal is to ensure residents have equitable access to important information, updates, and community dialogue.
These meetings generally last one hour and are typically held at 4:00 PM. There is currently no confirmed date for the next Town Hall. While meetings usually occur quarterly, the schedule may vary. This posting remains open so we may connect with volunteers on an as‑needed basis as meeting dates are established.
Reports to:
Volunteer Coordinator and the site’s Service Coordinator
Goal of Position:
To support Spanish‑speaking residents by providing accurate interpretation during Resident Town Hall meetings, ensuring they can fully understand and participate in important community discussions.
Specific Tasks:
- Provide clear and neutral interpretation between English and Spanish during Resident Town Hall meetings.
- Assist Spanish‑speaking residents in understanding announcements, discussions, and updates shared during the meeting.
- Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and cultural sensitivity throughout all interactions.
- Communicate any concerns, questions, or resident feedback to the Volunteer Coordinator or Service Coordinator.
Qualifications:
Physical/Age Requirements:
- Must be at least 16 years old
- Able to sit or stand comfortably while providing interpretation
Skills/Education/Experience:
- Clear and audible speaking voice
- Friendly, patient, and open‑minded
- Fluent in English and Spanish
- Interpretation or senior‑serving experience is helpful but not required
