    Description

Garden Bed Building Day at Prophecy Garden

Join Prophecy Garden and NYC Parks GreenThumb for a hands-on workday to rebuild raised beds and fill them with soil! Prophecy Garden is located in New Lots, Brooklyn and cared for by members of the community and the neighboring church. Gardeners and the general public can enjoy the space, grow food and flowering plants, and attend their frequent public events.

During this workday, we'll refresh the garden's growing area with new raised beds, which include dismantling the old beds, using carpentry tools, and filling beds with soil. No prior experience necessary! Beginner and experienced volunteers are welcome to join, learn how to use power tools safely, and support a volunteer-run community garden.

Please wear sturdy work shoes and warm clothing and bring water and snacks. Note: Some tasks may involve lifting heavy materials and extended periods of bending, squatting, and moving.

For information about group volunteering, please contact the GreenThumb Volunteer Program at GT.volunteer@parks.nyc.gov.

This event is co-hosted by NYC Parks GreenThumb. We are proud to be the nation’s largest urban community gardening program, sustaining over 550 gardens throughout New York City. GreenThumb community gardens are organized, led, and cared for by dedicated volunteer gardeners who critically upkeep them as public green spaces. With GreenThumb’s support, community gardens are centers of environmental justice, ensuring that our city is fairer, safer, and greener for all. GreenThumb’s events are free and open to the public.
