    Description

Empower the Next Generation of Girls! Youth Sports & Event Volunteer

    About The Empowerment Effect

Founded in 2022, The Empowerment Effect (TEE) is a women-led nonprofit dedicated to advancing sports equity and empowering girls ages 7–17 in the Los Angeles area. Our signature Developmental Hockey Program is completely free for all participants, providing full gear, on-ice training, off-ice personal development workshops, and community events to help young girls build confidence, resilience, and leadership skills.

    Role Overview

Love working with youth and want to make a tangible impact in girls' sports? We are looking for enthusiastic, community-minded volunteers to support our weekend practices, workshops, and events!

No prior hockey or skating experience is necessary! You just need a positive attitude, reliability, and a passion for creating a supportive environment for young athletes. Whether you're organized, creative, logistically minded, or just great at encouraging kids, we have a place for you!

    Time Commitment & Schedule (October 2026 – May 2027)

    • Average Commitment: 1-2 weekend sessions per month (approx. 2–4 hours/month total)
    • Locations: We rotate across Southern California to keep the program accessible:
      • On-Ice Practices & Scrimmages: 2x/month | Sunday afternoons @ East West Ice Palace (Artesia)
      • Dryland & Workshops: 1x/month | Saturday mornings @ Sports Basement (Long Beach)
      • Community Events: 1x/month | Flexible weekend timing (LA Kings games, field trips, etc.)

Volunteer Focus Areas (Where You Can Help)

When you apply, let us know which of these areas interest you most!

    • Check-In & Registration: Greet families, mark attendance, assist with waivers, and make every player feel welcome.
    • Bilingual Assistant: Provide translation and interpretation (Spanish/English) during practices, workshops, and check-in to support families and athletes.
    • Scorekeeper: Operate the game clock and scoreboard during scrimmages, track shift changes, and keep time for coaches.
    • Photo, Video & Storytelling: Capture action shots, conduct short athlete interviews, and highlight player growth for grant reports and social media.
    • Social Media & Marketing: Create engaging Instagram posts, graphics, and reels to promote upcoming events and celebrate program wins.
    • Locker Room Ensure a safe, supportive space for players before and after sessions, preventing hazing/bullying.
    • Event Day Floater: Jump in where needed! Help with setup/cleanup, assist families, give encouragement, or support program leads.
    • Equipment & Operations: Assist with inventory management, cleaning, distribution, and storage of player gear throughout the season.
    • Volunteer Coordinator Assistant: Help our leadership team with volunteer scheduling, confirming event staffing, conducting check-ins, and tracking safety compliance.
    • Fundraising Support: Assist with donor outreach, community fundraising events, and grant research.

    Qualifications & Requirements

    • Passionate about serving as a positive role model for young girls and athletes.
    • Dependable and able to commit to 1-2 weekend events per month (Oct–May).
    • Safety & Compliance (CA AB 506): Must complete a California DOJ/FBI Live Scan background check and brief online safety/training modules before starting.
      • Note on Fees: Live Scan vendors charge an out-of-pocket rolling fee (~$60). The Empowerment Effect fully reimburses your Live Scan and training fees after your first month!
