    Description

    Position Title: Member at Large on the Board of Directors

    Reports To: Board Chair

    Term Length: Three (3) years, renewable once

    Compensation: Volunteer (uncompensated)

    Time Commitment: Approximately 1–3 hours per month

    POSITION OVERVIEW

    The Member at Large serves as a voting member of the Board of Directors, contributing to strategic oversight, organizational governance, and mission advancement. Members at Large bring diverse perspectives and expertise to board deliberations and help ensure the organization remains accountable, financially sound, and mission-focused.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Attend and actively participate in monthly board meetings (mostly virtual)
    • Serve on at least one board committee (e.g., Finance, Programs, Governance, Fundraising, Marketing)
    • Review and vote on organizational policies, budgets, and strategic plans
    • Act as an ambassador for the organization within the community
    • Support fundraising and development efforts, including participating in the annual giving campaign, including a personal commitment
    • Maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive organizational matters
    • Disclose and manage any real or perceived conflicts of interest
    • Complete board orientation and participate in ongoing training

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Demonstrated commitment to the organization's mission and values
    • Professional expertise in one or more relevant areas (e.g., finance, law, marketing, technology, program management, social services)
    • Strong communication and collaborative decision-making skills
    • Prior nonprofit board or community leadership experience preferred but not required
    • Willingness to leverage personal and professional networks in support of the organization
