    This opportunity is open to individual volunteers age 18+, including older adults and international participants. Due to the nature of the work, this position is best suited for applicants with strong writing, analysis, or nonprofit experience.

    Description

    Grant Writer (Future Staff Role – Volunteer to Hire)

    Location: Remote (U.S.-based)

    Commitment: Full-time (pending funding)

    Reports to: Chief Financial Officer & Chief Operating Officer

    Position Summary

    The Grant Writer will play a pivotal role in securing sustainable funding for The Asylum Project’s programs and operations. Once funded, this position will lead the organization’s grant strategy—researching opportunities, drafting compelling proposals, and managing grant reporting to ensure transparency and impact alignment.

    Note: This position is currently a volunteer opportunity as The Asylum Project builds its funding base. Our goal is to transition this role into a paid staff position once funding allows. Volunteers serving in this capacity may be given first consideration when the paid position becomes available.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Research federal, state, foundation, and private grant opportunities.
    • Write clear, persuasive proposals aligned with our mission and strategic goals.
    • Track application deadlines, submission status, and grant reporting requirements.
    • Collaborate with program leads to develop budgets and narratives.
    • Maintain a grants database to monitor funding outcomes and renewal timelines.

    Preferred Skills and Qualities

    • Proven experience in grant writing and nonprofit fundraising.
    • Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling abilities.
    • Strong analytical and budgeting skills.
    • Familiarity with equity-centered and trauma-informed communication.
    • Knowledge of Google Workspace, Airtable, or other grant tracking tools.
