RLC Intern
Remote/NYC
Who we are:
Rescuing Leftover Cuisine (RLC) is a nonprofit organization committed to fighting food insecurity and preventing wasted food. We have cultivated a network of dedicated food rescuers who bring food directly from our donors to nonprofit organizations, letting neighbors help neighbors while reaping the environmental and economic benefits of reducing wasted food. Founded in 2013, our simple yet elegant model has redistributed over 21 million pounds of food to date.
What will you do
Rescuing Leftover Cuisine is seeking an Intern to support our Chief Executive Officer and broader team on a variety of ad hoc projects. You will work across multiple areas of the organization — including operations, communications, research, and strategy — depending on current priorities. This is a hands-on role for someone adaptable, takes initiative, and wants a genuine behind-the-scenes view of how a mission-driven nonprofit operates.
Responsibilities
- Conduct research and analysis on topics assigned by the CEO and leadership team
- Draft written materials, including reports, memos, emails, and presentations
- Support planning and execution of special projects and organizational initiatives
- Help track action items, deadlines, and follow-ups across ongoing projects
- Assist with operational and administrative tasks as needed
- Take on ad hoc assignments across any functional area, depending on organizational needs
Who you are
- Currently pursuing or recently completed an undergraduate or graduate degree (any field welcome)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Highly organized, self-motivated, and comfortable working independently in a remote environment
- Adaptable and comfortable with shifting priorities — no two weeks look the same
- Discreet and trustworthy with exposure to sensitive organizational information
- Reliable internet connection and a suitable remote working setup
- Proficiency with standard productivity tools (Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, or equivalent)
- Familiarity with project management tools (Notion, Asana, Monday.com, Trello, etc.)
- Passionate about food rescue, food insecurity, and community impact
RLC interns have the chance to work closely with the executive team and have the opportunity to make a true, meaningful impact during their time with the organization. This is a part-time, unpaid internship, although interns will be reimbursed for travel if local to an operational RLC branch and actively complete food rescue pickups. Interns are expected to work 20 hours per week. The start date is June 2026, with an end date in August 2026. Students should consult with academic faculty to determine if this unpaid experience will earn academic credit.
