    About LandSeed

LandSeed is a non-profit committed to reimagining entry-level housing for future generations. Our goal is to create inclusive communities where homeownership is accessible for all, and everyone has the opportunity to build a stable, fulfilling future. At LandSeed, we create solutions for the Canadian housing crisis by collaborating with communities and industry partners to identify barriers and create real pathways to homeownership.

    Our Commitment

We are driven to uplift those in housing ownership need, including first-time homebuyers, seniors, immigrants, single parents, environmentalists, veterans, and individuals with disabilities. Our vision is to pioneer data-driven designs and value structures for entry-level housing across Canada.

    Job Description

The Legal Research & Compliance Specialist provides foundational legal research, thorough document review, and background due diligence support to advance LandSeed's community initiatives. Serving as an analytical filter, this role ensures that organizational agreements are clear, regulatory frameworks are thoroughly vetted, and project files maintain high compliance standards before finalizing partnerships.

    Key Roles & Responsibilities

    Legal & Regulatory Research

    • Investigate provincial, municipal, and non-profit regulatory frameworks relevant to upcoming LandSeed initiatives.
    • Track evolving legislative updates and compliance requirements affecting community project tracks.
    • Translate complex legal, zoning, or regulatory concepts into clear, actionable summary notes and briefings for the executive team.
    • Proactively flag compliance risks, regulatory bottlenecks, or policy constraints early in the project lifecycle.

    Contract Review & Document Formatting

    • Review initial project agreements, Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs), and vendor templates for structural consistency.
    • Perform meticulous reviews of contract language to flag typos, formatting defects, and ambiguities in definitions or clauses.
    • Coordinate with the internal team to track contract revisions, outstanding versions, and execution timelines.
    • Ensure agreements are polished and organized before they are escalated to external legal counsel for formal sign-off.

    Due Diligence & Risk Support

    • Review, cross-reference, and organize historical project files, title documents, and background records to verify data integrity.
    • Conduct due diligence reviews on vendor profiles, third-party proposals, and structural templates.
    • Maintain organized compliance checklists to ensure all required documentation is collected and verified for project launches.
    • Assist the team in mapping out operational safeguards within agreements to minimize organizational exposure.

    Documentation & Workflow Management

    • Keep internal legal research databases, compliance templates, and reference materials updated and easily accessible.
    • Monitor task progress and track document review lifecycles using internal project management tools (such as ClickUp).
    • Ensure all reviewed files, signed agreements, and research memos are archived cleanly and accurately to preserve an institutional audit trail.

    Qualifications & Skillsets

    • Proven background, certificate, or active advanced studies in law, legal studies, paralegal studies, or corporate governance.
    • Exceptional analytical reading skills with a sharp eye for spotting discrepancies in dense, technical text.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills for summarizing legal research into practical business steps.
    • High level of comfort reading, analyzing, and organizing contract templates and corporate governance documents.
    • Exceptional organizational skills with a disciplined approach to version control and documentation tracking.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Prior experience conducting legal research or contract review in a professional, academic, or non-profit setting.
    • Familiarity with municipal by-laws, non-profit compliance standards, or community development frameworks.
    • Experience utilizing project management workflows and dashboards (e.g., ClickUp) to keep files moving efficiently.
