    Publishing & Editorial Intern (CPT / OPT Eligible) – Digital & Print Publishing Lab

    Organization:

    Q’s Ministry / BHITS – Los Angeles, CA

    Hybrid (Los Angeles-based with remote flexibility)

    Position Type:

    Internship (CPT eligible) / OPT Eligible

    Duration:

    Semester-based (12–16 weeks, renewable)

    Compensation:

    Academic credit (CPT) or unpaid professional training experience (OPT-eligible volunteer track)

    ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION

    Q’s Ministry / BHITS is developing a comprehensive publishing and digital media lab focused on academic textbooks, spiritual works, technical manuals, community resources, and multilingual publications distributed through Shopify, Lulu, and digital platforms.

    We are expanding our Publishing & Digital Media Lab and seeking CPT/OPT candidates majoring in publishing-related fields.

    ELIGIBLE MAJORS

    We are specifically seeking students in:

    • Publishing Studies

    • Book & Magazine Publishing

    • Publishing and Editing

    • English with Publishing Concentration

    • Professional Writing

    • Communications – Publishing Track

    • Journalism (Editorial focus)

    • Digital Media Production

    • Information Science (Publishing Systems focus)

    • Media Management

    • Technical Writing

    Graduate students in Publishing Management or Digital Publishing encouraged to apply.

    ROLE OVERVIEW

    This internship provides structured training in:

    Editorial Development

    • Manuscript review and acquisition support

    • Developmental editing

    • Copyediting and proofreading

    • Style guide enforcement

    Production & Layout

    • Book formatting (InDesign, Canva, LaTeX, EPUB)

    • Print-on-demand preparation

    • Metadata development (ISBN, BISAC categories)

    • Cover layout coordination

    Digital Publishing Systems

    • Shopify publishing workflows

    • Amazon KDP upload process

    • Lulu distribution systems

    • Digital archiving

    Marketing & Distribution

    • Book launch coordination

    • Author branding strategy

    • Sales analytics review

    • SEO and keyword optimization

    LEARNING OBJECTIVES (CPT-STRUCTURED)

    Students will:

    • Demonstrate editorial revision techniques

    • Execute full production cycle from manuscript to distribution

    • Apply metadata standards and ISBN systems

    • Analyze publishing sales data

    • Develop marketing strategies for nonprofit publishing

    • Produce measurable publishing deliverables

    Weekly supervision meetings provided.

    Formal evaluation available for DSO documentation.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Enrolled in F-1 program (CPT eligible) or approved OPT

    • Academic major directly related to publishing

    • Strong writing and editing skills

    • Familiarity with publishing software preferred

    • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
