Operation Homecoming, Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to researching, documenting, preserving, and promoting the history of missing, unidentified, and unaccounted-for members of the United States Armed Forces and allied military services. Through historical and genealogical research, public education, archival preservation, and collaboration with military, governmental, academic, museum, and nonprofit partners, we strive to honor the sacrifices of those who served and support families seeking answers.

As our organization grows, we are seeking dedicated and mission-driven individuals to serve on our Board of Directors.

Current Board Openings

Board Member at Large

The Board Member at Large serves as a voting member of the Board of Directors and participates in the overall governance and strategic direction of Operation Homecoming, Inc.

Responsibilities include:

• Attend and actively participate in regular Board meetings.
• Contribute to organizational planning, governance, and policy development.
• Review and vote on Board resolutions and strategic initiatives.
• Serve on Board committees as assigned.
• Support fundraising, outreach, and community engagement efforts.
• Act as an ambassador for the organization within the community.
• Uphold the fiduciary duties of care, loyalty, and obedience.

Ideal qualifications:

• Passion for military history, veterans' issues, genealogy, archival work, nonprofit leadership, or public service.
• Strong communication and collaborative decision-making skills.
• Commitment to ethical leadership and the mission of the organization.
• Prior nonprofit board experience is helpful but not required.

Public Information Officer (Board Officer)

The Public Information Officer (PIO) serves as the Board's lead communications officer and helps promote the mission and work of Operation Homecoming, Inc. through strategic communications and public engagement.

Responsibilities include:

• Assist in developing and implementing communication strategies.
• Draft press releases, newsletters, and public announcements.
• Manage or support the organization's website and social media presence.
• Coordinate media inquiries and public relations efforts.
• Promote educational programs, events, and research initiatives.
• Build relationships with veterans' organizations, museums, archives, educational institutions, and community partners.
• Ensure public messaging accurately reflects the organization's mission and values.

Ideal qualifications:

• Experience in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, social media, or public affairs.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Interest in military history, historical preservation, or nonprofit outreach.
• Ability to present information professionally and accurately.
