Harmony in Community - Help us celebrate 40 years

Volunteer shifts available between 4:00 p.m. and midnight

The Dispute Resolution Center of King County (KCDRC) is celebrating 40 years of helping people navigate conflict and build stronger communities — and we’d love your help making the celebration happen!

Harmony in Community is our 40th anniversary community celebration at historic Washington Hall. This casual, welcoming “un-gala” will bring together community members, volunteers, supporters, partners, and friends for an evening of live music, food, connection, and fun.

We’re looking for up to 40 volunteers to help with a variety of short shifts throughout the evening. Most shifts are just 1½–2 hours, so volunteers can contribute their time while still having an opportunity to enjoy the celebration.

Volunteer Opportunities

There’s something for a variety of interests, abilities, and comfort levels:

Event Set-Up | 4:00–6:00 p.m.

Help us get Washington Hall ready for guests by putting out signs, arranging décor, setting up event materials, and handling other light event-preparation tasks.

Registration & Guest Check-In | 6:30–10:30 p.m.

Welcome attendees, help guests check in, provide event information, and assist with ticket or other event sales. Some positions will handle payments, while others will focus solely on check-in and guest assistance.

Greeters & Registration Floaters | 6:30–9:30 p.m.

Be one of the friendly faces welcoming people to Harmony in Community! Help direct guests, answer basic questions, and provide extra support wherever it's needed around the registration area.

ID Check & Wristbands | 6:30–9:30 p.m.

Check identification for guests who plan to purchase alcoholic beverages and provide appropriate wristbands. Volunteers will receive instructions and training before their shift.

Bar Station Support & Sales | 6:30–10:30 p.m.

Assist at our beer, wine, and nonalcoholic beverage station, including processing sales and helping keep the station organized. Volunteers working in this area will receive instructions before their shift.

Raffle Ticket Sales | 6:30–9:30 p.m.

Help guests participate in our event raffle by explaining the basics, selling tickets, and bringing some enthusiasm to the festivities!

Door Monitors | 6:30–11:00 p.m.

Help us maintain a safe and welcoming event by monitoring designated entrances/exits and helping ensure guests use the appropriate doors. This is a hospitality and event-monitoring role — not a professional security position.

Coat Check | 6:30–11:00 p.m.

Help guests check and retrieve coats and keep the coat-check area organized throughout the evening.

Event Photographer | 6:30–10:00 p.m.

Help us document this milestone celebration by photographing guests, performers, activities, and candid moments throughout the evening. Photography experience and your own equipment are preferred. Please share a link to a portfolio or examples of your work if available.

Event Tear-Down | 11:00 p.m.–midnight

Night owls, we need you! Help us wrap up the celebration by taking down signs and décor, gathering event materials, tidying spaces, and helping us leave Washington Hall in great shape.

What We're Looking For

You don’t need previous event experience for most positions. We’re looking for volunteers who are dependable, welcoming, comfortable interacting with people, and excited to help create an inclusive community celebration.

Some assignments involve standing or moving around, while others can be performed primarily from a seated position. We welcome volunteers with disabilities and will work with volunteers on reasonable accommodations and assignments that fit their abilities.

Volunteers handling sales or payments should be comfortable using a simple electronic payment system. Training and instructions will be provided.

Because alcohol will be served at the event, volunteers may not consume alcohol while volunteering or during the event if they are assigned to an event role.

About Harmony in Community

For 40 years, the Dispute Resolution Center of King County has helped people throughout King County navigate conflict through mediation, conflict coaching, training, youth development, and other community-based services.

Harmony in Community is a chance to celebrate that history while bringing together the people who make peaceful conflict resolution possible. The evening will feature live entertainment, including Seattle folk-rock band American Flats and Afro-Funk band R E P O S A D O, food, beverages, a raffle, and plenty of opportunities to connect.

Whether you can help us welcome guests, sell raffle tickets, check coats, take photographs, set up the room, or stay late to help us tear everything down, your time will help make this milestone celebration possible.
