    Description

    The Barn Caretaker plays an important role in helping maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for our riders, horses, volunteers, and staff. This position assists with daily barn chores and general facility upkeep to help ensure the health and well-being of our horses and the smooth operation of the barn.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Feed and water horses as directed by staff
    • Clean stalls, paddocks, and barn areas
    • Refill hay and water buckets
    • Assist with turnout and bringing horses in from pasture when needed
    • Help maintain clean and organized tack rooms, aisles, and grooming areas
    • Monitor horses for any noticeable health or behavior concerns and report them to staff
    • Assist with general barn and farm upkeep, including sweeping, cleaning, and minor chores
    • Follow all barn rules, safety procedures, and horse handling guidelines

    Qualifications

    • Previous horse experience preferred, but not required for all tasks
    • Comfortable working around horses and in a barn environment
    • Ability to work independently and follow instructions
    • Reliable, responsible, and willing to learn
    • Positive attitude and strong teamwork skills

    Physical Requirements

    • Ability to lift hay, feed, water buckets, and barn supplies
    • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform physical tasks for extended periods
    • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions

    Consistency is important in maintaining quality care for our horses and facility. Volunteers are encouraged to commit to a regular schedule whenever possible.

    Instructions:

    What to know before you come:

    • You will be on your feet. Sturdy gym shoes or boots are required. No open toe shoes.
    • Dress in layers. We ride inside and outside, and the weather cannot be predicted.
    • Shorts or long pants are acceptable.
    • Gloves are not required but can be more comfortable if you are leading horses or the weather is cold.
    • If you volunteer in the fall or winter, dress appropriately. We will be going outside.
