FunGIS Reforestation Project — Youth Project Lead
Details
Description
Somebody young should be in charge of putting the woods back.
The FunGIS Reforestation Project is mycology as reforestation: crews collect fungal samples in the woods, send them to a lab for identification, and map where each species was found. Local samples are grown out in substrate, used to inoculate logs, and the inoculated logs go back into the woods — and the crew tracks which inoculations fruit.
As Youth Project Lead, you will help set the project plan, lead field days, assign jobs, teach new volunteers the basics, keep the project record straight, and report what the crew is learning. This is a real leadership role: the youth lead leads, with an Adult Project Advisor beside you for mentoring, safety, and logistics.
The Green Crew is a youth-led science-based environmental leadership and conservation service program, and a proud program of the Minnesota Valley Chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America. Open to youth ages 14 to 20. Field work builds on the Green Crew's Sunday project days (12:00–4:00 PM), plus a few planning hours a month.
