    Description

    Research Fellow

The Research Fellow will play a central role in producing high-impact policy outputs. This is not a general research position—the fellow will contribute directly to materials designed to inform real-world decision-making on nuclear risk and emerging technologies.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Draft short (2–4 page) policy memos on AI integration, NC3 systems, and escalation risk
    • Conduct targeted research on nuclear policy, defense systems, and AI-enabled decision-making
    • Develop scenario-based analyses illustrating potential escalation pathways
    • Translate complex technical and policy issues into clear, accessible writing for policy audiences
    • Collaborate with project advisors and the Project Director to refine outputs

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Background in international relations, security studies, public policy, or a related field
    • Strong writing skills, particularly for policy or non-academic audiences
    • Familiarity with nuclear policy, defense systems, AI policy, or emerging technologies (coursework or experience is sufficient)
    • Ability to synthesize complex material quickly and produce concise analysis
    • Interest in escalation dynamics, risk, and decision-making under uncertainty

    Ideal Candidate

    You are:

    • A clear, concise writer who can communicate complex ideas without jargon
    • Comfortable working independently and meeting deadlines
    • Interested in bridging technical and policy conversations
    • Motivated to contribute to work that engages real-world decision-makers

    What You’ll Gain

    • Experience producing policy-relevant research and analysis
    • Exposure to nuclear policy and AI governance discussions
    • Opportunity to collaborate with experts in national security and emerging technology
    • A strong writing portfolio with decision-facing outputs
