Pet Therapy Volunteer Teams Needed – Bring Comfort & Companionship to Hospice Patients

Compassus is a national leader in providing high-quality, compassionate, person-centered care to individuals wherever they call home. Through our Pet Therapy Volunteer Program, registered therapy animal teams help bring comfort, companionship, and emotional support to hospice patients, families, and care teams.

We are currently seeking established, certified pet therapy teams to support hospice bedside visits and occasional staff morale visits in facilities throughout Gwinnett and surrounding counties.

Volunteer Role:

Pet Therapy Volunteers provide calm, comforting visits that may include quiet companionship, gentle interaction, and sensory engagement for patients who may be experiencing anxiety, pain, loneliness, or emotional distress. Visits are guided by patient needs and preferences and do not require verbal interaction.

Requirements:

✔ Registered therapy animal team (Pet Partners, Alliance of Therapy Dogs, Therapy Dogs International, or similar)

✔ Animals must be tested, vaccinated, health-screened, and covered by handler liability insurance

✔ Domesticated animals only (Dogs, Cats, Rabbits)

✔ Background check required

✔ Hospice orientation and training provided

✔ Minimum commitment: Two visits per quarter
