Queen Community House's Friendly Visiting Program matches homebound older adults with volunteers in their community! We're currently in need of Friendly Visiting volunteers to provide social engagement to older adults in our community. Friendly visiting is an enriching opportunity for the volunteer to develop a meaningful friendship. Together, the older adult and volunteer can discuss shared interests, learn/teach new skills, read books, learn technology, play board games and much more!
We are in need of volunteers in Western, Central and Southwest Queens. These areas include Long Island City, Astoria, Sunnyside, Woodside, Jackson Heights, Elmhurst, Corona, Maspeth, Middle Village, Ridgewood, Glendale, Rego Park, Forest Hills, Kew Gardens, Woodhaven, Richmond Hill, Howard Beach, Ozone Park, Jamaica, Hollis, St. Albans, The Rockaways and Broad Channel.
The program also aims to reduce isolation and loneliness amongst seniors in our neighborhoods and communities. Friendly visitors must be 18 and over, be open to committing to 6 months of volunteerism, consent to a background check and must provide 2 non-familial references.
Volunteers can either call or do in-person visits the older adult upon approval. Volunteers would visit or make phone calls for at least 1 hour a week. We can work around your schedule!
