    Description

Barn Help at Pediatric Therapy Clinic

The tasks associated with the Barn Help opportunity are largely dependent upon the amount of equine experience a volunteer has. Those without horse experience can help with routine cleaning, event preparation, equipment organization and maintenance, and planning of activities. Those with previous horse experience can go through a brief training to help with grooming, bathing, mental health activities, and general upkeep of the horses. Volunteers work off of a list posted in the barn with daily, weekly, and monthly tasks to keep our herd happy and healthy!

This position can be self-scheduled or scheduled with a reccuring commitment within the working hours of the equine staff: M-Th 8am-5pm and Friday 8am-12pm.

    Qualifications:

    • There is no age limit for this position, but individuals under 16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult when volunteering.
    • Attend an orientation session to familiarize yourself with the clinic and our programs.
    • Able to work as a team with other volunteers and staff members.
    • Willing to learn and follow DST procedures and policies.
    • Able to accept constructive feedback and follow direction from DST staff members.

    Responsibilities:

    • Check in at the Volunteer Center and view daily schedules and announcements.
    • Check task list in the barn to asses what the daily needs are.
    • Complete tasks that are appropriate to your level of training and ask for clarification from an equine staff member when necessary.
    • Check items off of the list that are completed.
    • Check back out at the end of the shift to record hours volunteered.
