    Description

    About and Impact:

    Norwood Crossing is a senior living community located in Chicago's Norwood Park neighborhood. Join the fun and help our senior residents enjoy an engaging hour of games, laughter, and social connection! Volunteers play an important role in creating a welcoming environment where residents can participate in a variety of recreational games while building friendships and staying active.

    Time Commitment:

    Volunteers are needed on a weekly basis to assist with Fun & Games Hour.

    Saturdays: 2:15 PM – 3:15 PM

    Responsibilities:

    • Assist with setting up and putting away games and activity supplies.
    • Help residents participate in a variety of games and activities by providing encouragement and assistance as needed. Some residents may need help seeing game pieces or cards, hearing instructions, keeping score, or physically handling game materials.
    • Foster a fun, friendly, and inclusive atmosphere by engaging with residents and encouraging participation.
    • Transport residents via wheelchair or accompany them as they walk to and from the activity area.

    Qualifications:

    • Able to safely transport residents in their wheelchairs (training provided).
    • Able to commit to arriving on time each week and volunteering for the full activity. Advance notice of absences is greatly appreciated by staff and fellow volunteers.
    • Able to commit to a minimum of two months of continuous volunteering.
    • Comfortable working as part of a team, taking direction from staff, and interacting respectfully with residents and fellow volunteers.

    norVOLution is the volunteer program of Norwood Life Society, a non-profit, 501(c3) organization that supports the very best in senior services at Norwood Crossing, a residential and health care campus located in the Norwood Park area of Chicago, and Norwood Seniors Network, a community outreach agency that helps older adults enjoy a safer, more independent lifestyle by bringing affordable services into their homes.
