Board of Directors: Vice President
Details
Description
About the Role The FACTS Initiative is seeking a strategic, collaborative leader to serve as the Vice President of our Board of Directors.
Please note: While we operate with a working board due to our organization’s size, this is strictly an advisory and governance role, not an operational staff position. You will not be expected to execute daily operational tasks. Instead, you will offer high-level guidance, review policies, and provide strategic recommendations to ensure professional oversight and informed decision-making.
As the Vice President, you will serve as the second-in-command, supporting the Board President in leading the board and advancing the organization’s mission. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate leader to shape the direction of the organization and ensure our strategic goals are met.
What You Will Do (Governance & Leadership)
- Executive Support & Leadership: Actively collaborate with the President to ensure the smooth operation of the Board. Serve as a sounding board, assist with meeting preparation, and represent the board at community engagements. In the President's absence, you will step in to lead board meetings and ensure leadership continuity.
- Committee Synchronization: Lead and synchronize the work of committee chairs (e.g., finance, public relations, governance) to ensure all efforts align with the organization’s strategic goals. Facilitate communication to avoid duplication of efforts, track key milestones, and ensure committees have the resources they need.
- Board Development: Support the President in identifying and recruiting new board members and committee chairs. Mentor and guide new leaders to help them acclimate to their roles.
- Governance & Oversight: Assist in setting performance expectations and accountability for the board. Ensure the board adheres to its governance duties, including compliance with legal, financial, and ethical standards.
Who We Are Looking For
- Experienced, strategic leaders with a strong background in organizational governance, board leadership, or executive management.
- Collaborative team players capable of acting as a reliable second-in-command and a mentor to committee chairs.
- Excellent communicators who can facilitate cross-committee collaboration and keep strategic initiatives on track.
- Individuals passionate about making an impact and safeguarding the mission of The FACTS Initiative.
Time Commitment
- Approximately 4–6 hours per month (averaging 1 to 2 hours per week).
- Attendance and active leadership at quarterly board meetings.
- Regular check-ins with committee chairs to ensure progress across board initiatives.
- Participation in strategic planning meetings with the President and Executive Director.
Why Join Us? The Vice President is a critical leadership role. By ensuring that all committees work cohesively and stepping up to lead when needed, you will directly strengthen our capacity to provide trauma-informed care and support to vulnerable children and families in our community.
