    Description

Help Job Seekers Take Their First Step

ORGANIZATION: Goodwill of North Georgia — Woodstock Career Center

    OPPORTUNITY SUMMARY

Be the first friendly face a job seeker sees when entering the Woodstock Career Center.

Goodwill of North Georgia is seeking a welcoming, dependable volunteer to greet visitors, assist with check-in, explain the benefits of Career Connector registration, and direct each person to the appropriate service or staff member.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys helping people, providing strong customer service, and making an immediate difference in the lives of job seekers.

    ABOUT THE ROLE

The Career Center Welcome & Check-In Volunteer helps create an organized, respectful, and encouraging experience for every person who enters the center.

Visitors may be coming in to search for employment, work on a résumé, attend a class, use a computer, meet with career services staff, or learn about training opportunities. The volunteer will briefly identify the purpose of each visit and help the visitor take the correct next step.

The volunteer will not provide career counseling or make eligibility decisions. Goodwill staff will be available to assist with questions or needs beyond the volunteer’s assigned responsibilities.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Greet every visitor with a smile and a professional, welcoming attitude
    • Ask brief questions to understand the purpose of the visitor’s trip to the Career Center
    • Help registered visitors check in by scanning their Career Connector card
    • Assist visitors with selecting the services they plan to use during that visit
    • Direct visitors to the appropriate staff member, computer station, class, appointment, or service area
    • Guide new visitors to a computer to create a Career Connector account
    • Briefly explain the benefits and resources available through Career Connector
    • Answer general questions about the Career Center and its services
    • Notify staff when a visitor requires additional assistance
    • Help maintain an organized and welcoming reception and check-in area
    • Protect the privacy and dignity of every visitor

    CAREER CONNECTOR BENEFITS

The volunteer will be trained to explain that creating a free Career Connector account provides access to resources including:

    • A job board featuring hundreds of local opportunities and access to thousands of listings on external job boards
    • A step-by-step résumé builder for creating, updating, and saving a résumé
    • Live and self-guided digital skills classes, including Microsoft Excel, Adobe Premiere Pro, and other courses
    • Skills assessments that help users identify strengths and areas for growth
    • Career-planning tools that can be accessed from any device or location
    • Community resources across more than 20 categories, including transportation, clothing, housing, citizenship services, and other support

    WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

    The ideal volunteer is:

    • Friendly, approachable, patient, and encouraging
    • Comfortable interacting with people from different backgrounds and life circumstances
    • Able to listen carefully, ask clear questions, and provide simple directions
    • Comfortable using computers, scanners, and basic online systems
    • Organized and able to remain calm when assisting multiple visitors
    • Dependable and willing to serve on a consistent schedule
    • Professional and respectful of confidential or personal information
    • Interested in workforce development, community service, or helping people overcome barriers to employment

    PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

Previous experience in customer service, reception, administration, hospitality, education, social services, workforce development, or community service is helpful but not required.

    Training will be provided.

    TIME COMMITMENT

Volunteers will serve in three- to four-hour shifts.

A consistent weekly shift and a minimum commitment of three months are preferred. Reliable attendance is important because volunteers will receive training on the Career Center’s check-in procedures, registration system, services, and visitor flow.

    WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS

Entering a Career Center can feel intimidating, especially for someone who has been unemployed, is changing careers, has limited computer experience, or is rebuilding after a major life transition.

    • The opportunity to help job seekers move toward employment, stability, and independence
