ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a detail-oriented Guest Discovery Researcher to join our marketing team. In this role, you will play a critical part in shaping the quality and impact of OpenGov Africa's live sessions by identifying and profiling the right voices: experts, thought leaders, practitioners, and advocates. Who can move conversations forward and inspire our growing community across Africa. Your main role will be to research, evaluate, and recommend guests whose expertise aligns with our mission in civic technology, open governance, transparency, and accountability.
Responsibilities
- Research and identify potential guests, speakers, and panelists for OpenGov Africa's live sessions across civic tech, open governance, transparency, accountability, and African development
- Evaluate prospective guests based on expertise, credibility, relevance to session themes, diversity of perspective, and audience fit
- Compile detailed guest profiles and shortlists with supporting background information, social media presence, published works, and impact history
- Monitor trending conversations, emerging voices, and developments in civic tech and open governance to proactively surface timely guest recommendations
- Collaborate with the live sessions team to understand upcoming session themes and tailor research accordingly
- Maintain an organized and up-to-date database or tracker of researched guests, outreach status, and key contact information
- Support initial outreach efforts by drafting guest introduction messages or briefing notes where required
- Stay informed about key events, conferences, publications, and networks relevant to OpenGov Africa's focus areas
Qualifications
- Minimum 2–3 years of demonstrated experience in research, talent sourcing, program coordination, or a related field
- Strong research and analytical skills with the ability to assess the credibility, relevance, and impact of potential guests
- Excellent written communication skills for compiling clear, well-structured guest profiles and briefing notes
- Familiarity with research tools, professional networks (LinkedIn, Google Scholar, ResearchGate), and social media platforms
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple research pipelines, track progress, and meet deadlines independently
- Passion for civic technology, transparency, and open governance in Africa
- Experience with nonprofit, media, or social impact organizations is an advantage
- Experience with speaker sourcing, event programming, or guest booking is an added advantage.
Commitment Details
- Position Type: Volunteer
- Time Commitment: 3 hours per day
- Schedule: Monday – Friday, 9 AM to 12 PM WAT
- Duration: Minimum 6-month commitment preferred
- Location: Remote
- Expectations: Reliable participation, timely content delivery, and consistent communication
