    Description

    Barbed Wire Crew Leader

    Summary of Position

    Become a wildlife advocate by removing barbed wire from our landscape! Be a representative of Jeffco Parks & Open Space (JCPOS) by assisting with small group projects or independently coil, remove, and map barbed wire within our parks.

    Duties

    Represent JCPOS by being a visible and approachable presence in our parks

    Assist volunteer groups in safe and successful removal of barbed wire

    Complete a report after each project, tracking volunteer hours and work accomplished statistics

    Find new areas of barbed wire or walk suspected areas to confirm location using GIS maps.

    Coil or remove barbed wire

    Requirements

    Be in good physical condition

    Follow Crew Leader uniform guidelines

    Complete required training and mentoring

    Volunteers must abide by JCPOS Park Regulations and established volunteer policies and procedures outlined in the JCPOS Volunteer Handbook

    Basic knowledge of map reading

    Up-to-date tetanus shot

    3. Attend New Volunteer Orientation
      1. All new volunteers are required to attend New Volunteer Orientation at JCPOS Headquarters to become familiar with the entire JCPOS system prior to specific program training. You must pre-register for orientation on Offero. Registration links are provided upon receipt of your application.
    4. Attend Program Specific Training
      1. Training will consist of one seven-hour meeting at Jeffco Parks & Open Space Headquarters and a park. Training includes a four-hour lesson on map reading, compass use, and GPS use.
      2. Training is on March 26, 2026, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at JCPOS Headquarters and an outdoor location to be determined.
