    Description

YMCA Swim Buddies - Pembroke Pines on Saturdays

Swim Buddies is an inclusive, adaptive swim program designed to teach water safety and fundamental swim skills to participants with special needs and physical disabilities 4 years and up. The program focuses on building confidence, improving swimming skills, and promoting safe water habits in a supportive and engaging environment.

Obtain 4 volunteer hours each day!

    Volunteer Role:

As a Swim Buddies Volunteer, you will be paired one on one with a participant to provide encouragement and hands on support during swim instruction. Volunteers assist participants with:

    • Practicing swim skills and techniques presented by swim instructors
    • Providing motivation and positive reinforcement
    • Helping ensure safety and comfort in the water
    • Building meaningful connections through patience and play

    What to Bring and Wear:

To best support our participants, volunteer should come prepared with:

    • Appropriate swim attire (e.g., full coverage one-piece swimsuit, or swim shorts and a t-shirt)
    • Sun protection (sunscreen, hat, etc.)
    • Towel and change of clothes
    • Reusable water bottle to stay hydrated

No prior swim instruction or swim experience is required – just a positive attitude and a willingness to support individuals with varying needs in the water.
