    Programme: New School (Cambridge Curriculum)

    About VPWA

    Volunteer Partnerships for West Africa (VPWA) is a non-profit, community-driven organisation working to improve education, health, and sustainable development across Ghana. As part of our education programme, VPWA is supporting the growth of a new Cambridge curriculum school in Accra, integrating technology, coding, and AI literacy into the learning experience.

    Role Purpose

    The AI, Coding & ICT Specialist volunteer will play a crucial role in introducing and strengthening digital literacy, coding, and emerging technologies (including AI concepts) among children. The volunteer will design and deliver engaging, age-appropriate lessons, train teachers in ICT integration, and support the school’s vision of preparing students for a digital future.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Design and deliver coding, robotics, ICT, and basic AI literacy lessons for learners (ages 5–11).
    • Introduce children to beginner-friendly programming languages (Scratch, Python basics, Blockly, etc.).
    • Support teachers in integrating ICT and digital tools into regular classroom teaching.
    • Develop lesson plans, activities, and digital learning resources aligned with the Cambridge curriculum.
    • Organise hands-on workshops, hackathons, or coding clubs to inspire creativity and problem-solving.
    • Ensure responsible, age-appropriate use of technology among learners.
    • Train local staff to sustain ICT, coding, and AI programmes beyond the volunteer’s stay.
    • Support the setup and maintenance of related digital resources.

    Requirements

    • Strong background in ICT, computer science, coding, or related fields.
    • Proficiency in beginner-friendly programming tools/languages (e.g., Scratch, Python, robotics kits, AI literacy tools).
    • Experience teaching or working with children and young learners is highly desirable.
    • Passion for digital inclusion, creativity, and child-centered learning.
    • Strong communication and cross-cultural skills.
    • Ability to adapt teaching methods to resource-limited environments.
    • Degree or professional background in ICT, Computer Science, or Education is an asset (but not mandatory).
