Maat K12 is seeking a dependable and encouraging Remote 1st Grade Math Tutor to provide individualized and/or small-group academic support to elementary students. The volunteer will help students strengthen foundational math skills while building confidence and positive learning habits.
Volunteer Responsibilities
- Provide at least 5 hours of remote tutoring each week.
- Support 1st grade students with counting and number recognition, addition and subtraction, comparing numbers, place value, basic shapes and measurement, simple word problems, math fluency, and problem-solving.
- Explain math concepts in age-appropriate, easy-to-understand ways.
- Use Maat K12-approved curriculum, activities, and learning platforms.
- Encourage students through positive reinforcement.
- Document tutoring hours and completed sessions.
- Communicate attendance, progress, or concerns to Maat K12 staff.
- Follow all Maat K12 student-safety, privacy, and professional-conduct requirements.
Qualifications
The ideal volunteer is patient, dependable, comfortable working with young children, and confident with elementary mathematics. Previous tutoring, teaching, childcare, mentoring, or education experience is preferred but not necessarily required. Volunteers must be comfortable using online learning and video-conferencing technology.
Schedule
Minimum commitment: 5 hours per week. Specific tutoring times will be coordinated according to student needs and volunteer availability. Because this is a remote opportunity, qualified volunteers may participate from different locations.
Corporate Volunteer Grants
Volunteers who work for companies with employee-giving programs are encouraged to check whether their volunteer service with Maat K12 may qualify for a corporate volunteer grant or matching-gift program. Eligibility, hourly values, minimum-hour requirements, and other rules are determined by the volunteer's employer.

How to Volunteer for This Opportunity
Please submit your interest through Idealist and include your weekly availability, relevant tutoring, teaching, childcare, mentoring, or education experience, and a brief statement about why you would like to support 1st grade students. A resume is welcome but not required.
