Are you a finance, accounting, banking, or business professional looking to use your expertise to make a lasting impact? Step 1 Recovery Resources is seeking a dedicated volunteer Treasurer to serve on our Board of Directors and help ensure the financial strength and sustainability of our mission.
As Treasurer, you will provide financial oversight while working alongside a passionate board committed to helping individuals overcome addiction by connecting them with life-changing treatment and recovery resources.
The Treasurer serves as the Board's financial leader, providing oversight of the organization's finances, ensuring sound financial management, and helping maintain compliance with nonprofit financial and reporting requirements. In addition to traditional Treasurer responsibilities, every board member actively participates in supporting our clients and organizational growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the custody, security, and management of all organizational funds and financial assets.
- Manage deposits, receipts, and disbursements in accordance with board policies and practices.
- Maintain accurate financial records, including assets, liabilities, revenues, expenses, and financial transactions.
- Present financial reports and updates to the Board of Directors as requested.
- Prepare or oversee preparation of financial statements and annual financial reporting.
- Ensure the timely filing of all required federal and South Carolina nonprofit tax documents.
- Maintain financial transparency and make financial records available to board members as appropriate.
- Support the board in developing sound financial policies and maintaining the organization's fiscal health.
- Participate in the rotating weekly schedule for responding to website inquiries, emails, and voicemail messages.
- Approximately once every six weeks, oversee the complete client placement process, including:
- Monitoring new inquiries
- Conducting client interviews
- Presenting candidates for board approval
- Coordinating treatment placement
- Arranging transportation when needed
- Providing intake and waiver documentation to partner facilities
- Interview prospective volunteers and future board members.
- Support fundraising efforts and advocate for the organization's mission within the community.
Time Commitment
- Attend bi-monthly board meetings.
- Participate in committee meetings as needed.
- Share responsibility for weekly communications on a rotating schedule.
- Lead the client placement process approximately once every six weeks.
- Average commitment: 5–10 hours per week, with occasional additional time around financial reporting or year-end filings.
