    Description

    Community Clothing Closet Volunteer

    Purpose of Position:

    • In this position, the clothing closet volunteer will be under the direct supervision of the program manager. Directions include helping to stock, clean, hang clothing, and provide a friendly and enriching experience for the clients to obtain clothing, diapers and formula. Also helping the clients to choose their own clothing.

    Requirements of Position:

    • Organization skills, reliable, responsible, can sort clothing, customer service skills, friendly and positive demeanor, patient.

    Training Provided:

    • Before starting, please attend an orientation about Mothers and Babies to learn more about the organization. Following orientation, you will be shown what is expected of you and what you will be doing. The orientation will be scheduled with the program manager, who will contact you prior to your first start date.

    Duties:

    • Assess the quality, condition and seasonal appropriateness of the donations and help categorize them by type and size. Clothing in good condition, of high quality and of seasonal appropriateness are sent on to be stocked on our shopping floor for clients.
    • Items not supporting our mission are placed aside to be donated forward, and also items that do not meet expectations are packed away, donated forward or recycled.
    • Gather clothing from storage or donation bins, sort clothing (the ripped, dirty, out of date clothing, and seasonally inappropriate clothing from what we can put on the shelves,) hang clothing, make closet neat and presentable, cleaning the closet, helping clients obtain clothing.
    • Sort diapers by size, and order them in a neat fashion for customers to pick up. Formula and other items we collect are also part of the clothing closet.

    Reports Required:

    • You will be asked to sign in on and out at the front desk, this is how we track your volunteer hours. These sheets will then by turned to the program manager.

    Benefits:

    • The clothing closet volunteer will gain customer service skills, organization skills, inventory and logistics skills, and have a rewarding experience helping the families and individuals we serve.

    Role Requirements:

    • Standing, bending, reaching and moving around for majority of shift; opportunities for sitting occasionally, lifting boxes/bags up to 40lbs.
