    Description

Do you play guitar (or something similar), know or enjoy learning songs from bygone eras, and want to make someone's last months more joyful and full of music?

Unity Hospice & Palliative Care is seeking musical volunteers to play and sing with our hospice patients. Many patients spent years in musical pursuits but are now unable to play due to their health conditions. We get requests often from families saying "the time dad is happiest is when he's singing with someone".

Volunteers in this role will do weekly visits on a weekday or weekend at whatever location a patient calls home - nursing home, assisted or independent living facility, their home or that of a family member. Our patients are spread throughout the city and suburbs, and Unity will find an assignment that respects your commuting requests. This only requires an hour or two of time a week, but will give you enough fulfillment to keep you going the rest of the days! We ask that volunteers make a 12 month commitment to our program at a minimum so that our patients have consistency through their hospice journey.

Volunteers with Unity go through extensive training on the Hospice and End of Life field, and are asked to complete a background check (requires a social security #/fingerprinting) and a Tb and drug test (for drugs not legal in IL). Volunteer coordinators will walk you through the onboarding process and continue to support you throughout your matches with the wonderful clients we get to meet in this role.

We look forward to hearing from you!
