    Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic and culturally engaging Volunteer Facilitator to lead a special 1 to 2-hour Juneteenth event for our shelter community. The ideal volunteer will bring history to life with a brief, engaging educational presentation suitable for all ages, followed by inclusive, hands-on activities to celebrate the day. Please note: As a volunteer-led special event, the facilitator will need to provide their own materials for the presentation and activities.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Educational Presentation: Prepare and deliver a short (10–15 minute) presentation explaining the history and significance of Juneteenth. This should be family-friendly—engaging enough to hold the attention of children, but informative and respectful for our adult residents.
    • Activity Facilitation: Lead celebratory activities for the remainder of the 1-2 hour block. This could include community arts and crafts, storytelling, music, interactive games, or facilitated group reflections that allow both kids and adults to participate and connect.
    • Event Preparation: Supply and bring all necessary materials, props, or supplies needed to execute your planned activities.
    • Community Engagement: Foster a warm, inclusive environment that encourages participation from residents of all ages, helping families and individuals celebrate together.

    What We Are Looking For

    • Comfortable and confident speaking in front of and engaging with a diverse, multi-generational group.
    • Patience, empathy, and a positive, celebratory attitude!
    • Ability to design activities that can be easily adapted for different skill levels and ages.
