    Description

Community Advocacy & Action Day Volunteer – MLK Day of Service

SHE IS U is a survivor-led nonprofit organization committed to empowering Overcomers of domestic violence, sexual abuse, and sexual assault through prevention, intervention, advocacy, and long-term stabilization.

Our mission is rooted in education, healing, justice, and youth empowerment—ensuring that young people are informed, engaged, and equipped to stand against violence in their communities.

On January 19th (MLK Day), SHE IS U is hosting a Community Stand Up Against Domestic Violence, and we are specifically seeking YOUTH VOLUNTEERS to take an active role in advocacy, awareness, and community action.

This opportunity is ideal for middle school, high school, and college students looking to fulfill service hours while honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy through meaningful civic engagement.

    Youth Volunteer Responsibilities May Include:

    • Assisting with event setup and breakdown
    • Participating in peaceful advocacy and awareness activities
    • Creating and holding signs with anti-violence and MLK-inspired messages
    • Engaging with community members and distributing materials
    • Supporting organizers to ensure a safe, welcoming environment

    Who Should Apply (Youth-Focused):

    • Middle school, high school, and college students
    • Youth leaders, student advocates, and service-learning participants
    • Students interested in social justice, advocacy, public health, or community service
    • Youth seeking verified volunteer or school service hours

    What Youth Volunteers Will Receive:

    • Full volunteer/service hours (documentation provided)
    • Lunch provided
    • Hands-on experience in grassroots advocacy and civic engagement
    • Leadership development and exposure to nonprofit and community organizing work
    • An opportunity to amplify youth voices against violence

    Additional Notes for Youth Volunteers:

    • Please dress warmly and comfortably for outdoor advocacy
    • Youth are encouraged to bring a favorite MLK quote to include on a poster
    • Arrival time and event logistics will be shared upon registration
