    Description

Tree Nursery Volunteer: Help Grow and Care for Tree Seedlings for Schools, Communities and Environmental Conservation in Tanzania

Conserve Life Foundation (CLF) is looking for volunteers to support our tree nursery in the Kilimanjaro Region of Tanzania. The nursery provides seedlings for school greening, community tree planting and local environmental conservation activities.

    Volunteer Responsibilities

Volunteers will work alongside CLF staff and may help with:

    • Preparing nursery beds and seedling containers.
    • Planting and germinating seeds.
    • Watering and caring for seedlings.
    • Weeding and maintaining the nursery.
    • Transplanting and arranging young seedlings.
    • Monitoring seedling growth and keeping simple records.
    • Preparing healthy seedlings for distribution and planting.
    • Supporting tree-planting activities in schools and communities.
    • Helping with environmental education and awareness activities.
    • Taking photographs and documenting nursery activities.

    Qualifications

No professional qualifications are required. We welcome students, gardeners, agriculture or environmental students, teachers, retirees and anyone interested in trees and conservation.

Previous gardening, forestry, agriculture or nursery experience is helpful but not required. Volunteers should be willing to work outdoors, participate in practical activities and learn from local staff and community members.

    What to Expect

This is a hands-on volunteer opportunity. Activities can involve physical outdoor work such as watering, weeding, planting and moving seedlings. The daily schedule may vary according to weather, seasonal conditions and nursery needs.

Volunteers will gain practical experience in tree nursery management and community-based conservation while experiencing local life in Tanzania.

    Experience Tanzania

During their free time, volunteers can explore the local area and experience Tanzanian culture. CLF can help volunteers learn about or arrange visits to local cultural villages, community activities, markets and other places of interest.

Cultural visits are optional and are separate from the volunteer work. Any additional transport, entrance fees or activity costs will be discussed with the volunteer beforehand.

    Location & Duration

The project is based in the Kilimanjaro Region of Tanzania, with occasional tree-planting activities at schools and community sites.

A minimum commitment of 2 weeks is recommended, with longer placements welcome.

    Volunteer Contribution

The volunteer contribution is US$200, covering accommodation, meals and local support during the placement. Volunteers are responsible for international travel, visa, insurance and personal expenses.
