    Description

    Zoo Host

    Help further the zoo’s mission by connecting with our guests and inspiring them to conserve wildlife and wild places by providing animal information, directions, and general zoo information.

    All volunteers enter the program as a Zoo Host to assist our guest experiences team throughout the zoo to provide guests with the best experience possible. This may include helping guests find their way through the zoo, special events, and educating the public on our incredible animals, plants, and their conservation. Your goal as a Zoo Host is to inspire, educate, and engage our Zoo guests!

    Duties

    • Help guests navigate the zoo
    • Answer guest questions about exhibits, attractions, and amenities
    • Direct and coordinate guests at keeper talks, sea lion presentations, and other programming throughout the zoo
    • Consistently provide a friendly face and great attitude
    • Inspire guests to do their part in conserving out planet
    • Act as an ambassador for the zoo

    Requirements

    • Must be at least 16 years of age
    • Completion of a volunteer application, orientation, and training session
    • Commitment to volunteering 50 hours per year (average of 4.2 hours per month)
    • Approved through screening process, including a background check and interview
    • Ability to tolerate reasonable weather conditions
    • Ability to walk or self-transport throughout the zoo
    • Good oral communication skills
    • Ability to work independently
