HOST, STUDY ABROAD, VOLUNTEER AND/OR DONATE WITH AFS
Often the main opportunity to be involved with AFS has been by hosting an AFSer for next school year or sending a student abroad in the near future.
However, volunteers are needed to support the exchange students and their partners with 90 countries. Go to see this at www.afsusa.org/volunteer-with-afs and http/afsusa.org/misstennky/.
Some school systems will not be hosting in the fall, but are looking at the Spring. The AFS Area Chair and volunteer chair is also Becky Heywood at AFSbecky@comcast.net and 615-473-4389. MNPS and Williamson county will accept students in the fall.
The local team web site is www.afsusa.org/misstennky/. Many scholarships are available for studying abroad: summer, semester, gap year, year long and on community service and global prep programs go to www.afsua.org/study-aborad to view the many programs. To see if there are still opening in certain countries contact Christina.pettinelli@afsusa.org. Students in only Montgomery County are eligible to apply for the Edelweiss Scholarships (two $4,000 scholarships) to study in Germany of Austria. The students do not have to have already studied or are currently studying German.
