    Description

12/16 Food Forest Volunteering & Experiential Learning

The REED Center is a non-profit that is developing food forests across the region. In the next 6 months we will be planting numerous food forests in the nearby area and caring for our existing headquarters, 150+ acre site called Morning View Food Forest.

Anyone looking to try/learn/take part in a a diverse range of tasks can find them here. Projects we'll be working on include:

    • Nursery development
    • Grafting and plant propagation
    • Planting trees and shrubs
    • Tree and shrub maintenance (mulching, replacing tree shelters, removing vines or aggressive plants)
    • Trail maintenance and building
    • Fence repair
    • Invasive plant removal
    • Harvesting and processing berries, herbs, fruits and nuts
    • Building simple structures
    • Harvesting firewood and building materials

We occasionally work in areas with thorny plants, so please wear work clothing. We also recommend bringing layers as temperature shifts can be dramatic.

Many of our activities require gloves. If you have work gloves, please bring them, otherwise we can provide some. Also, please where water resistant shoes if you have them. Working with wet feet from rain or morning dew is not fun.
