    Volunteers should be comfortable around horses, able-bodied and capable of lifting 40 lbs, able to be on their feet for the entire shift, able to fully communicate, hear and understand directions clearly and react quickly.

    Description

    Arena Gate Attendant

    As a Gate Attendant in one of our four arenas, you will ensure that horses and riders safely enter and exit the arena, make sure riders have proper wristbands to enter the arena and assist in other areas as directed. You may also need to help prepare for clinics, including setting up props and carrying equipment in out of the arena. While all arenas are indoors, you will be standing near an open over-head door and you must where close-toe shoes.

    Directions

    The Midwest Horse Fair is held at the Alliant Energy Center, which is located on the Southern edge of Madison, WI, just off the Beltline Highway (Hwy 12 & 18), on John Nolen Drive. With such a great location, the campus is five minutes from interstate 90/94 via Hwy 12 & 18, minutes from the Wisconsin State Capitol, Madison’s State Street area and the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus and only 15 minutes from the Dane County Regional Airport.

    COMING FROM THE NORTH ON I-90 OR I-94:

    • Use Exit 135A
    • Head south on HWY 151
    • Travel 5 miles to John Nolen Drive
    • Go 1 mile on John Nolen Drive
    • Turn right on Olin Avenue
    • Enter at the Olin Gate or continue on John Nolen Drive to the John Nolen Gate.

    TRAVELING FROM THE SOUTH ON HWY 12/18:

    OPTION 1

    • Exit 261A
    • Go North on Park Street
    • Take the first right onto W. Badger Road and drive 3/4 of a mile
    • Turn left into Alliant Energy Center at the Rusk Gate

    OPTION 2

    • Exit 261A
    • Go North on Park Street for 1 mile to Olin Ave
    • Turn right on Olin Ave Follow Olin Avenue to Olin Gate

    Once inside the grounds Volunteers should report to the Welcome Center in Pavilion Two - Door 6

    How to Volunteer for This Opportunity

    Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the Midwest Horse Fair.

    By volunteering your time, you can earn FREE admission to the Midwest Horse Fair! There is a minimum of one (3)-hour shift per person. One (3)-hour shift results in a free one-day wristband ($25 value) for the day you volunteer. Three (3)-hour shifts results in a free weekend wristband ($55 value).

    A Release of Liability Form must be signed and is now included in the application. Minors must have a parent or guardian sign onsite before they are given a wristband. Volunteers must be 14 years of age or older as of April 16, 2026.

    Please read the Volunteer Job Descriptions before applying. Job and time preferences are taken into consideration but are not guaranteed. Please be advised that assigned jobs may change onsite as needed at the discretion of Midwest Horse Fair.
