    Position Overview

    Independent Living Housing is seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to serve as our Family Resources Coordinator. This person will lead all efforts to secure donated clothing, food, and holiday support for learning‑disabled students and their families enrolled in Detroit Public Schools.

    The goal of this role is to ensure that each enrolled family receives seasonal clothing, holiday meals, and essential support throughout the year—including Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter, and Back‑to‑School.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Solicit donations of new clothing, shoes, coats, and accessories for children with learning disabilities

    • Secure grocery donations, gift cards, or food boxes for families to prepare full holiday meals

    • Coordinate seasonal drives, including:

    – Christmas outfits & gifts

    – Thanksgiving dinner supplies

    – Easter food baskets

    – Back‑to‑school clothing & essentials

    • Build and maintain relationships with donors, churches, businesses, and community partners

    • Develop partnerships with Detroit area clothing retailers, grocery stores, community groups, and foundations

    • Manage donation inventory, distribution lists, and delivery schedules

    • Ensure each student receives a complete outfit and each family receives full meal ingredients

    • Maintain accurate records for reporting and grant purposes

    • Work collaboratively with the ILH leadership team to assess annual family needs

    • Represent ILH professionally in the community and at outreach events

    Qualifications

    • Strong communication, outreach, and relationship‑building skills

    • Experience in community engagement, nonprofit work, or donation drives is helpful

    • Ability to organize multiple seasonal programs throughout the year

    • Compassion, reliability, and commitment to supporting vulnerable families

    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

    • Comfortable coordinating with schools, donors, and community partners

    Time Commitment

    Flexible — seasonal increases during holidays and back‑to‑school months.

    Detroit, MI and surrounding communities

    (Some outreach can be done virtually.)

    Compensation

    Volunteer or stipend-supported role (you may specify your preference).
