Communications Director

Responsible to: President of the Friends of the Oakley Library

Works with: Library staff, Friends volunteers, local press outlets, President and Board of the Friends of the Oakley Library.

Description of role: Oversee all aspects of marketing for the Friends of the Oakley Library, including working with other volunteers on social media, our bi-monthly newsletter, website, and local news outlets. These efforts are meant to inform the community about the Friends’ activities, generate new memberships, and garner support for the new library and library programs.

Primary Responsibilities: Oversee volunteers in charge of social media, the website, and our bi-monthly newsletter. Work with our web designer to update the website as needed: add announcements, meeting agendas and minutes, adding links to articles of interest, and other updates. Send out press and calendar updates to local news, school districts, and City staff for upcoming events.

Secondary Responsibilities: attend monthly meetings with the Friends, have regular contact with the President and library staff to ensure you’re aware of new developments and initiatives, join the Friends of the Oakley Library organization.

Skills/Qualifications needed: Excellent writing and communication skills; working with a team of volunteers to spread the word about the Oakley Library and the Friends of the Oakley Library.

Desired Experience: Writing experience; some knowledge of social media, including the mechanics of posting and the awareness of what will interest followers; ability to work with a variety of people and organizations.
