    Copy Editor / Fact-Checker (5-10 hours/week)

    About the Role

The Centercratic Party requires meticulous Volunteer Copy Editors to uphold the highest standards of journalistic integrity across all our publications. Our audience expects analysis that connects problems to solutions, free of ideological spin. In this role, you will be the final line of defense ensuring that every published piece is accurate, professionally formatted, and perfectly aligned with our strict communication guidelines. You will play a vital role in ensuring our moderate, balanced approach is communicated flawlessly.

    Responsibilities

    • Review and copy-edit weekly articles, newsletters, and policy documents for grammar, clarity, and tone.
    • Fact-check dates, names, legislative details, and statistical claims using reliable, original sources.
    • Ensure all content adheres to our specific formatting rules, such as eliminating em dashes, avoiding overly short or long sentences, and maintaining a professional, serious tone throughout.
    • Provide constructive, detailed feedback to our volunteer writers to help them improve their storytelling, precision, and alignment with our centrist voice.
    • Familiarize yourself completely with the Centercratic Party’s mission by reviewing all materials at centercratic.party and centervoter.com.

    Requirements

    • A commitment of 5 to 10 hours per week.
    • Exceptional attention to detail and a strong command of the English language.
    • Ability to maintain the Centercratic Party’s objective, serious voice without injecting personal bias or adopting the derogatory language too often found in today’s political commentary.
    • Previous experience in copy editing, publishing, or academic review is highly desirable.
