    Pet Therapy Volunteer

    Position Summary

    Autumn Hospice is seeking compassionate individuals and their canine companions to serve as pet therapy volunteers. This volunteer role provides comfort, companionship, and emotional support to hospice patients during critical and meaningful moments in their lives.

    Volunteers and their dogs visit patients in a variety of care settings, including nursing homes, assisted living communities, skilled nursing facilities, and private residences.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Provide emotional comfort and companionship to hospice patients through scheduled pet therapy visits
    • Interact respectfully and sensitively with patients, families, and care staff
    • Adhere to Autumn Hospice policies, safety standards, and confidentiality requirements
    • Participate in required volunteer orientation and training

    Volunteer Qualifications

    • Strong interpersonal, communication, and active listening skills
    • Ability to pass a background check
    • Commitment to completing hospice volunteer training
    • Reliable attendance and professionalism

    Canine Requirements

    • Dog must be therapy-certified or have successfully completed the American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Test
    • Dog must be current on all core vaccinations, including:
      • Rabies
      • Distemper
      • Parvovirus
      • Leptospirosis
      • Adenovirus
    • Dog must demonstrate calm, gentle, and predictable behavior in healthcare environments
