    Description

Help support, organize, and grow a diverse, multidisciplinary team of volunteers building AI tools and civic initiatives for constructive human dialogue.

Crossing Party Lines is seeking a dependable, organized HR & People Operations Lead based in the United States to join our operational and leadership support structure. As our Apps and Agents team and organizational programs rapidly expand with volunteer engineers, designers, strategists, and researchers across the globe, having grounded, US-compliant HR practices and a welcoming people operations framework is critical. You will help steward our volunteer lifecycle—from recruitment and onboarding to engagement, dispute resolution, and compliance.

    About Crossing Party Lines

Crossing Party Lines is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to helping Americans talk across political differences with curiosity, respect, and mutual understanding. Our Apps and Agents division combines emerging generative AI technologies with proprietary depolarization methods to create scalable dialogue tools. Because our work centers directly on navigating diverse perspectives and sensitive discussions, our internal culture reflects those exact same values: respect across differences, high emotional safety, and open communication.

    What You’ll Do

    • Oversee the end-to-end volunteer lifecycle: managing role postings, screening applicants, organizing interviews, and facilitating smooth onboarding/offboarding.
    • Act as the primary point of contact for volunteer support, inquiries, and team health check-ins.
    • Ensure basic US nonprofit volunteer compliance, maintaining volunteer agreements, confidentiality acknowledgments, and accurate operational records.
    • Help coordinate team schedules, check-in cadences, and cross-functional communications across different time zones.
    • Facilitate constructive internal conflict resolution and feedback processes aligned with CPL’s core communication principles.
    • Partner with organizational leadership to design lightweight retention, recognition, and volunteer appreciation programs.

You May Be a Good Fit If You

    • Are based in the United States with practical experience in Human Resources, People Operations, Volunteer Coordination, or Talent Acquisition.
    • Have familiarity with US nonprofit guidelines and standard practices surrounding volunteer management.
    • Bring strong interpersonal, active listening, and conflict de-escalation skills.
    • Can maintain strict confidentiality, professional boundaries, and organized documentation.
    • Are comfortable working in a distributed, remote environment using modern productivity tools (Slack, Google Workspace, Zoom, Airtable/Trello).
    • Approach a wide range of political viewpoints, backgrounds, and communication styles with neutrality, patience, and respect.

    What You’ll Gain

    • Leadership experience running people operations for an active, multidisciplinary nonprofit and tech initiative.
    • Meaningful involvement in an organization building practical solutions to political polarization and civic disconnect.
    • Direct collaboration with executive leadership and international teams across technical, product, and community disciplines.
    • Executive and organizational references reflecting your contributions and impact.
